The Middletown Lions Club No Kid Hungry Backpack Program got an early start this week.

With four days off for Presidents Weekend,  the school children were really going to be looking forward to getting their backpacks.  Glenice Foglia who heads the committee for the Middletown Lions Club said the 66 backpacks that are filled with food each week had do be done a day early because of the holiday.  The backpacks are sent home with the children so they’ll have something to eat during the weekend.

One of these items and more was put in each backpack.

The Lions fill the backpacks at the Interfaith Food Pantry located St. Paul’s Methodist Church at 58 West Main Street in Middletown.  The Lions Club funds the  program which they’ve been doing for about 7 years.

Currently 22 children in each of Middletown’s 3 elementary schools receive a backpack packed with food and snacks for the weekend.

The No Kid Hungry campaign is a national program which has a simple goal– ending childhood hunger in America.
