Flags for July 4th on Independence Ave

This is a big shout out to all our friends and neighbors in the Independence Avenue area of Middletown who may be wondering how all the flags appear, lining the street each July 4th.

Check out this video and see who’s been putting out the flags and having a great time doing it.

The flags have been springing up every July 4th morning making the neighborhood look festive and patriotic for at least the last ten years. After all what better street than one named Independence to get decorated on Independence Day. Columbia and Winchester Avenues get flags in front of each house too.

The people putting out the flags,  are my 5 grandchildren and their friend Logan and me. My daughter Jennifer, mother of the grandchildren took the pictures. My wife Ellen was on hand driving the car keeping us supplied with flags.

My daughter said this has become a tradition. One that we and the neighborhood enjoy.

Happy 4th of July.

Having known Art & Ellen before they were actually Mr. and Mrs. warms my heart as much as this video!!!!! When we were young Memorial Day,Flag Day, the 4th of July, Veteran’s Day and D-day were never forgotten in the homes of any veteran! The pride of country was instilled in us from an early age as was the respect for every man and woman who defended our freedoms. Since then we’ve added September 11th to that list to show our pride as Americans and to remember those who were lost. Congrats to these folks in our community who have passed the love of country on to their children and grandchildren. No… We do not live in their neighborhood but we know them and all we can say is, ” You both deserve a round of applause for all the good you’ve brought to and continue to do for our hometown !! Three cheers for YOU and the Red, White and Blue!!” Hugs Michele Peter and Maggie Damken
