One fact you might not know about the Town of Wallkill.   It was almost the site of the famous 1969 Woodstock Music Festival.  Town officials worried about crowds, traffic, and resources for the event, prohibited it.  Bethel about 40 miles away in Sullivan County became famous for hosting it.

If you’re a long time resident and someone says Town of Wallkill, two words are likely to come to mind:  Miracle Mile.  That was what Route 211 East was known as in the late 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s.   It was an economic engine for the town and entire region.  The highway became lined with stores, supermarkets and commerce in a way that Orange County had never seen before.   Someone called it the Miracle Mile and the name stuck.   You still hear people call it that today.

This is the “Anticipated Connector”. I think every motorist who would like to get quickly and easily, especially on busy shopping days, from the Galleria to the Wal-Mart Home Depot Shopping area is waiting for this to open. Currently to make this trip you have to drive out to Route 211 or other roads. Once they put a road through this underpass it will just be a quick trip under Route 17. But when? Its been a while since I’ve heard anything about finishing the connector. When do you think it will be opened? Leave a comment.
