Jim Witt–Well Known Meteorologist Hits $2.5M for Charity With Weather Calendars

JimWitt-1

I caught up with, Jim Witt, at the Orange County Trust Company Branch location at 78 North Plank Road in Newburgh.   He was there signing copies of the “Hudson Valley Weather Calendar”.   It includes his Long Range Forecasts that he’s made famous in his 42 years of broadcasting the weather on WHUD*.    The calendar also features beautiful pictures of the Hudson Valley.

Check out the video I made with Jim for all the details:

The calendars Jim was signing normally sell for $12.00.   Orange County Trust purchased the calendars to give free of charge to their customers.   They also had free hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade served very professionally by a local company that has been in business for 28-years  called, Parties Ala Cart  (845-561-1647), to make the day more special.

Witt says,”every penny raised”, goes to charities benefiting children.   This is the 29th year for the Hope for Youth Foundation Inc. Long Range Weather Calendar.   Total raised to date $2,500,000.

If you didn’t get a calendar from Orange County Trust you can order one by mail from:

Send a check or money order for $12.00 per calendar with your name, address and phone and they’ll fill your order.   Great Holiday Gift Idea.

*In addition to WHUD Jim also broadcast the weather on 1340 WALL in Middletown the 1970’s, when I did the morning show there.   He and I did two live 5-minute weather broadcasts together each morning.   They were very popular with our listeners. Jim’s long range forecasts were often a topic of discussion with listeners wanting to know when the next big snowstorm was coming or what the weather would be for an upcoming holiday weekend.  Sometimes people tell me they remember me on the radio by saying you used to do the weather with Jim Witt.

Maybe you remember those golden days of Middletown Radio too?  Feel free to leave a comment below.

You can still hear Jim forecasting the weather live each Saturday morning on WHUD 100.7 FM at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30.

It was a pleasure to see and talk with him again.   I hope you’ll get one of the calendars too.
